Starting in 2000, Ely Greenstone Public Art Committee sponsored Ely’s first mural. The mining-themed mural, located on the Central Avenue side of Phil’s Conoco station, is quite an attraction. Designed and executed by artist William E. Defenbaugh, “The End of an Era” mural occupies a space 25′ x 34′ and was painted with the help of volunteers over a period of 12 days in July, utilizing close to 200 man hours directly on the project.
“Summer Blueberries by artist Sharon Anderson, located on the property of Grand Ely Lodge, off Pioneer Road on Ely’s north side, was commissioned by Ely Greenstone in 2001.
“Shore Lunch” by artist Bob Cary is located at the Mantel House on Ely’s main thoroughfare, Sheridan Street. It was commissioned by Ely Greenstone Public Art in 2001.
