Greenstone Gala set for July 21, 2012

Come for the Gala Evening of the seventh annual Ely Greenstone Juried Art Show & Sale where over 160 pieces of art will be shown on Saturday, July 21, 2012, 7-9 p.m.

Known as the premier event of Ely’s art scene, it features food samples from Ely’s many fine restaurants. The wine reflects Ely’s early years when the Mondavi family of present-day Napa Valley wine fame were among the pioneer immigrants.

Reservations for the Gala can be made on line, safely through PayPal, at a cost of $30 per person. Children are not permitted for this adult event.

And while the first evening is a ticketed event, the next eight days, which include the Blueberry Arts Festival weekend, are free and open to families.

There is a variety of artwork which reflects the uniqueness of the north county. Included are stained glass, pottery and stoneware, photography, watercolors and oil paintings, sculpture, beadwork, baskets, furniture, canoes and much more.

The exhibit is held at the Miners Dry building, 105 Miners Lake Landing Road, in the Ely Arts & Heritage Center from July 21-29, 2012. This historic building is part of the Pioneer Mine complex which is on the National Register of Historic Places.
Renovation work the past year in the Miners Dry includes a cushioned floor, more electrical wiring for outlets as well as structural repairs. The cost was over $24,000 and includes grants from Donald G. Gardner Humanities Trust, Arrowhead Regional Arts Council, Ely Greenstone Public Art, Mid Continent Media, Minnesota Historical & Cultural Grants, City of Ely and Iron Range Resources & Rehabilitation Board.
