$1,500 in 2017 art contest prizes offered by Ely Greenstone Public Art

Artists – you are invited!

You may remember taking part in the creative art contests of past Ely Greenstone Public Art – Fintastic Fish, Images of Ely, Chair-ity, Creatures of the Wilderness World, here’s something new.
The Ely Greenstone organization in 2017 is looking at those fantastic creations and seeking your ideas on a new creative contest to “Honor Ely’s Past.”
Since EGPA manages the Pioneer Mine Complex for the City of Ely, that history made this a special year – 2017 and a cause for recognition. It is the 50th Anniversary of the April 1 closing of Pioneer Mine (1888-1967).

Any subject under the sun can be chosen and any materials can be used. There should be at least a total of 3 entries in each category to form the basis for judging an award. Enter as many as art pieces as you care to submit.

There will be a $250 Prize in each of these categories: 1. Painting/Drawing; 2. Photography/Graphics; 3. Sculpture;,4 Glass;  5. Pottery/Ceramics; and 6. Textiles. Maximum dimension size 6 feet.

Entry form available. See news on upper right. There is no cost to enter. You have over four months to lets your artistic juices flow. Deliver art to Miners Dry House at Pioneer Mine by Saturday, June 10, 2017.

The artwork will be auctioned off at a special event Saturday, June 24. Artists will receive 20% from the sale of their work.

  • Ely Greenstone manages the Ely Art & Heritage Center in the historic Pioneer Mine buildings.  We have held our Juried Art Show and Sale there since 2007 and are planning more events to come!  Please view our schedule below.

Ongoing – Honoring Ely’s Mining History – Miners Memorial Sculpture has raised over $9,000 in donations so far. The Shaft House at 401 North Pioneer Road is open during the summer on Tuesdays from 2-5 and Fridays from 3-6 p.m.  More information on the Miners Memorial and how you can donate here.
